DotApp is an AI-powered learning platform that brings course creation, guided learning and team training into one connected experience. With an in-lesson AI mentor, structured learning paths and progress tracking, it helps learners find their next step, creators develop content and organisations manage workforce training.

The learning & content challenge

A library becomes more useful when learners can see how the material fits together and where to go next.

Understanding a workflowTopic 2 of 3

A workflow is a sequence of steps, each with a responsible role and an output.

Understanding a workflow

Explore the workflow

A learning-content experience organised around domains, courses and individual topics.

Inside the build

The decisions behind the experience.

DotApp serves three different jobs: learning a subject, producing the material, and delivering training inside an organisation. The product challenge was to give each audience a focused workspace without creating three disconnected systems. A shared Domain → Track → Course → Module → Topic hierarchy gives lessons a place in a larger learning journey.

The design brief

Keep the learning journey continuous across authoring, study and team training.

A learning platform needs to connect the content, the learner and the person responsible for their progress.

The constraint

One content model must serve different audiences. The learner needs a next step; the creator needs review controls; a training lead needs assignment and progress context.

The tradeoff

A structured hierarchy adds authoring work up front, but lets the same topic retain its course context across learner and organisation views. AI drafting supports that structure without replacing the publishing decision.

Decision 01

Make the next action obvious

A resume card, course outline and topic roadmap establish where a learner is and what comes next. Notes, saved blocks and progress stay close to the lesson instead of becoming separate chores.

Decision 02

Put assistance beside the material

Nova can respond to selected text or a particular content block. Narration highlights the spoken passage, while supported interactive blocks let learners practise in the browser. Help is attached to the moment it is needed.

Decision 03

Give AI a reviewable publishing path

The creator workflow separates course structure, lesson generation and approvals. Reference uploads support the drafting process, but the workspace still exposes review and publishing decisions to the creator.

A workflow in practice

From the trigger to the handoff.

A representative scenario through the implemented workflow.

  1. 01 · The situation

A learner returns to an unfinished course.

  2. 02 · The product response

The topic remains inside its module and course, with progress and contextual assistance close to the material.

  3. 03 · The next step

The learner can continue the lesson; the creator manages the underlying content through a separate workspace.

How it is built

The structure behind the workflow.

Experience layer

Next.js and React organise public discovery, learner pages, creator tools and organisation workspaces.

Application layer

Django provides content, progress, organisation and subscription services. Background jobs support generation and audio work.

AI & delivery

Provider-backed generation and narration extend the authoring workflow. Availability depends on configured services and plan settings.

Delivered capability

Inside DotApp.

The resulting product connects the creation, consumption and administration of learning. Its strongest design idea is continuity: a topic belongs to a course, assistance belongs to the topic, and an organisation can follow the learning it assigns.

For products serving several audiences, reuse the underlying content structure while making the next action specific to the person using it.

Evidence & evaluation

What this case study establishes.

This is a product engineering case study based on source code, project documentation and recorded screens. It describes implemented capabilities; customer performance gains have not been measured for this case study.

What to measure next

Suggested measures for a deployment evaluation, not reported results.

  • Resume-to-lesson completion rate
  • Time from draft to reviewed publication
  • Assigned training completion by cohort
